In a sharp and pointed response, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi reminded Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Bilawal Bhutto Zardari of the bloody history attached to his own family after Bhutto’s recent controversial remark about “rivers of blood” flowing if political demands in Pakistan are ignored.
Bilawal, during a charged rally in Sindh, warned the ruling establishment that “rivers of blood would flow” if the upcoming elections were manipulated. The fiery statement stirred reactions not just within Pakistan but also across the border.
Reacting to the statement, Asaduddin Owaisi remarked,
“Bilawal Bhutto speaks of blood in rivers. Has he forgotten whose mother’s government was accused of supervising mass violence in Pakistan? Has he forgotten the hanging of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and the bloodshed during Benazir Bhutto’s terms? Before threatening rivers of blood, he should reflect on his own family’s history.”
Owaisi’s comments served as a reminder of the turbulent political past in Pakistan, especially the controversial periods during Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s rule and Benazir Bhutto’s two terms as Prime Minister. Both leaders’ tenures were marred by allegations of political violence and human rights abuses.
The Hyderabad MP also criticized Pakistani politicians for making provocative statements at a time when the region desperately needs stability and dialogue.
“Instead of threatening violence, leaders should talk about peace, development, and democracy — not bloodshed,” Owaisi emphasized.
